The Caterpillar Class had so much fun playing during Gingerbread week.  We read different versions of the Gingerbread story, played Gingerbread ball, played Gingerbread Gingerbread Gingerbread Man (like Duck Duck Goose), sang Patty Cake, made cookies with play dough, played Gingerbread hopscotch, sang the five little gingerbread, weighed cookies, counted cookies, painted gingerbread men, made gingerbread houses with the Butterfly Class, and went on a gingerbread hun...

This week's focus in our bakery center is being a customer and what this entails (waiting in line, greetings, reading a menu, paying for your purchase). One way we can support the development of these skills is thinking aloud when we are playing along side our kiddos. So for example, if we are pretending we are the customer, we could explain how we are waiting in line behind the customers in front of us because it is important that we wait our turn to make sure ever...

Farm animals have been so much fun.  We spelled our names in corn, built fences with Popsicle sticks, made popcorn, talked about what sounds animals make and what they give you on a farm, read lots of farm books, sang Old McDonald and This Little Piggy, we counted animals, decorated our own barns, mixed paint to make brown “mud” for pigs, built tractors out of shapes, and made fluffy sheep with white paint.

The children were thrilled to tell me all about their day at...

This week we have explored pumpkins by tasting seeds and pumpkin cream.  We made pumpkin spin art, mixed colors to make orange, planted pumpkin seeds, pretended to make pumpkin muffins with play dough, went on a pumpkin hunt, weighed pumpkins, and played farmer and pumpkin tag, fished with nets in the pond, and sang Five Little Pumpkins on a Gate.

If you want to continue the fun at home this weekend, here are a few recipes to try:

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. It has been nice to finally have some dry weather!

Our classroom has been transformed once again. This time instead of our garage our kiddos will find a pumpkin patch! I’ve also taken down our cloth house and created a space for boxes! One family has generously offered us the boxes from their recent move and I am so excited to have those available to the kiddos. I can’t wait to see what they create.

I’ve filled our sensory...

We are learning about fall leaves this week by sorting colors, creating pipe cleaner button trees, sorting seasonal rocks, decorating a color stick with tissue paper, stamping leaves in play dough, matching leaves, and exploring the different trees and leaves outside.

Pretending to be a tree has been a big hit, as well as singing the ABC’s and reading books about fall.  As always time outside is always a favorite.  We have been so happy to see the return of sunny d...

The rain has not stopped us from going outside and having fun!  The approaching storm last week meant we saw more animals than usual on the playground and made friends with a frog and snail family who enjoyed being outside as much as we did.

Last week we explored our 5 senses and parts of our body.  We traced our hands and bodies, explored ways to write and decorate our names, measured ourselves, and made lots of silly faces in our art and on our faces!

We are get...

Happy Mother's Day! I hope each and every one of you wonderful mamas were celebrated today! We worked all last week on some presents for your kiddo to take home to you....and sadly not a single one of them worked out!! We made shrinky dink hand prints that curled up in the oven and never returned to a recognizable shape. We took pictures that were supposed to be turned into magnets, but I realized all too late that I didn't have all the materials like I thought I di...
